The Answer is NO---See The Law Below!
When you talk with the support people at the printer companies they attempt to "scare" you by saying you either will or have voided your warranty by using compatible cartridges.
Please read them the law below. Obviously, if the cartridges had damaged your printer then they would be justified in voiding your warranty. But they need to prove it not just "assume" it.
In the last eight years we have not seen ONE printer damaged by our cartridges...Period!
Think about it this way. You own a GM car...you take in for service and the mechanic comes out and says that you have voided your warranty because you used a "Fram" oil filter rather than the GM orginal oil filter. Again if the filter could be proved to have failed and thus damaged your car they would be justified in voiding your warranty. If you think about it there wouldn't be any non-dealer replacement parts for your cars if the manufacturer's could scare you into not using generic/compatible parts.
The Law:
Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act
United States Code Annotated Title 15 Commerce and Trade Chapter 50 Comsumer Product Warranties 15 Section 2302
"(c) No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the commission if: 1. The warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and 2. the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest.
What this means to printer users! This means that the manufacturer of the printer you are using cannot void the warranty on your printer because you use a cartridge or refill kit manufactured by someone other than the printer manufacturer. This prohibition includes the use of compatible cartridges, clip-ons, continuous feeding mechanisms, refill kits, ink, etc. The printer manufacturer is not required to make warranty repairs, however, to printers that have been damaged due to use of a product that they did not manufacture, co-manufacture or authorize for use in their products.
